The UK left the European Union on 31 January 2020 which means that the country is currently in a transition period with the EU and is likely to be until 31 December 2020.

With the UK leaving the EU this is likely to have an impact on how overseas dental professionals looking to work in the UK will be able to register with the GDC.

Currently, the GDC are saying that there is likely to be no change to how dental professionals with EEA (European Economic Area)/Swiss qualification are registered in the UK over the course of the transition period.

The GDC are also anticipating that all applications from dental professionals with EEA/Swiss qualifications that are received by 11pm on 31 December 2020 will be processed under the existing rules and regulations.

The GDC have stated that the requirements for registration after 31 December 2020 will depend on the outcome of the negotiations that are taking place during the transition period.

Unfortunately, dental professionals will need to wait for further information to be published by the GDC as to how it will affect their registration applications in the future.
