Brendan trained and qualified as a solicitor with Eastwoods Solicitors in 2012. He subsequently joined Hill Dickinson in 2019. In 2021, Brendan became a part of the Gordons Healthcare Team.

Expertise

Brendan assists in all areas of Gordons healthcare practice. This includes Trust disciplinary matters, Regulatory proceedings (GMC / MPTS & GDC), Employment Tribunal proceedings, clinical negligence claims, Inquests and criminal defence litigation.

He regularly attends Medical Practitioner Tribunal Service Hearings, General Dental Council Hearings, Trust Disciplinary Hearings, Inquests, the High Court, Criminal Trials and Police interviews to advise and represent clients (including doctors, dentists and health care professionals).

Brendan has regular contact with clients who face an investigation by their Regulator, Employer, the Police, as part of an Inquest or a combination of the above.

Brendan has successfully represented clients in GMC, GDC and HCPC fitness to practise proceedings in relation to allegations including: deficient professional performance, misconduct, having a criminal conviction and health concerns (sometimes after a lengthy and document heavy hearing). He has also successfully defended clients in criminal proceedings, which resulted in Crown Court trials, after they were accused of committing serious offences. Brendan has also advised and represented clients during Employment Tribunal proceedings and Inquests with favourable outcomes.

Brendan has been thanked by his clients for his empathic approach towards their difficult and stressful situation and for robustly defending their best interests.

Other areas of Brendan’s work at Gordons include: drafting Court / legal documents, liaising with Court and preparing for trials and hearings.

Brendan is a member of the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers (ARDL)

Notable Cases:

  • Advised and represented a doctor who was the subject of a police investigation regarding allegations of gross negligence manslaughter. Following a robust police interview, the police determined to take no further action.
  • Advised and represented a GP practice at in Inquest involving numerous Interested Persons. The GP practice avoided criticism from the Coroner.
  • Advised and represented a doctor before an Interim Orders Tribunal of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service. Following successful submissions, no interim orders were imposed on their GMC registration.
  • Advised and represented a dentist who was the subject of a General Dental Council investigation. Following submitting robust written representations on behalf of our client, the case was closed without progressing to a hearing.
