Here at Gordons Partnership we are always looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint. As law firms are not usually described as “sustainable” or “green”, we wanted to lead by example and ensure that we have put the necessary measures in place, to stop the effects of climate change, wherever we can.
In our quest to go green, we have unearthed a few law firm perceptions to ensure we are swimming with the metaphorical “climate change current” and not against it.
Here is how we have managed to improve our green footprint in the last couple of months.
We have reduced the number of documents we print by opting for electronic copies instead. Since May 2019 we have switched to a new printing service and have been closely monitoring and comparing the amount of paper we use. On average, we are saving just shy of 24,000 pieces of paper a month – this is the equivalent of nearly 50 reams of paper and a whopping 3 trees, all of this in our Guildford office alone!
We have provided recycling bins, with biodegradable bin liners, in each department. This seemingly small step has made a huge difference to our overall waste impact.
In addition to the above, we have said no to bottled water. We have recommended that employees use re-usable bottles. To help promote this, we have installed a new water dispenser with both still and sparkling options.
Finally, we have encouraged our staff to cycle to work by providing bike storage facilities and a shower. This ride to work scheme is also a great opportunity to make tax and NI savings when buying a bike to commute for work.
At Gordons, we not only care about the environment, but are also committed to ensuring the overall health and wellness of our employees is looked after. To do this, we have organised yoga sessions, scheduled twice a week, and provide our staff with fresh fruit to promote a healthy diet.
Any steps you or your business can take to reduce your carbon footprint benefits the environment in a huge way.
